I was very annoyed about something I came across the other day. At my job, I was submitting a supplier application for my company at a major cosmetic line's website. They have various kinds of minority/women-owned preference programs, and they ask you submit proof of your certification of that status, etc. Pretty normal stuff. Hey, could you do me a favor and gimme your server/char name? I might pop by. Although it doesn't look like I'm gunna have much time to join another server but.. I'm just curious. ^-^ Alliance right?

Maelstrom server. Character name is Thais. I'm usually on 6:30 to 10:30 (at least) on the weekdays, and then weekends vary, but you're likely to find me logged on.

I think that if it was a conscious decision, it's more likely that they're assuming that business owners aren't queer (or don't feel like proving it) rather than assuming queer people don't own businesses. My guess is that this would be because if something is left blank, they might be obliged to ask. The fact that it's on the list at all ought to show that they're not making assumptions like that.

Might also be some kind of company policy based off "don't ask, don't tell." Something like "By default, if you don't want to tell us your sexuality, we assume you are heterosexual." i.e. "for your protection."

(Which is, yes, unsettlingtosaytheleast.)

That would be awesome. I'll have to email you so we can set something. I'm not sure of where you're currently living, it occurs to me. I've been missing some of my old Claremont-area food places, though, even though I've found some locally.

I'm living near Santa Clarita, so about an hour west of you. I am not totally moved out of claremont (still have a PO Box and storage unit down there) so in a couple of weeks when I go get more stuff out of storage and empty the PO Box again, we could meet in the Pasadena area for lunch.
