I'd rather join a group with some guidelines than one that lets any scmuck or jerk say whatever the hell the want, to be honest.

guidelines can be good, rainswolf, but have you seen *all* the words one isn't allowed to use in feminist for fear of offending someone? for example, the words "dyke", "femme", even "queer"...i mean, what's left then?

I haven't read all the words one isn't allowed to use... I do think that dyke, femme and queer should be allowed. How is "femme" offensive? I could see the WAY those words are used could determine if they're offensive, but not the words themselves. What if you call yourself one of the words?
