update on class times

So, the class after reading the ugly article wasn't as helpful as I'd hoped. I did get a chance to express feeling like a lot of the intensity of the parent's reaction was culturally driven, but I got frustrated enough by the abilism in the class sentiment, and inarticulate enough about my own responses, that I ended up walking out of class, rather ( Read more... )

Heh.

From my experience, every parent of every child occasionally wishes their kid(s) didn't exist or would just die. Hell, most of them want to kill the kid(s) themselves from time to time. It seems plausible that those moments would be more frequent among the parents of disabled kids, but I'm by no means convinced of it.

Basically all the parenting children with disabilities issues are regular parenting issues. The can be more intense or more frequent or more noticeable for the parents, depending on the situation. (Like realizing all at once that you didn't get the kid you dreamed of getting, as opposed to bit by bit.) And there is a lot of infant neglect and attachment issues because of parental depression and disengagement. But, you definitely have a point.
