Blah?

School is starting to wind down a bit. I'm feeling a bit wistful tonight, almost wishing I was back in a time where things were simpler and easier. I almost long for the days of being an amateur academic; once you become an "expert," everyone just expects you to know all the answers. There's a certain freedom that comes with inexperience, you're ( Read more... )

Pfft, once you get your military training, you'll be making more than me, most likely. Hell, if you made 80,000 a year like you said in your post, you'd probably be making more than I will as a prof after 10 years of university education ...

Also, we're flying into Sydney on December 15th, getting in at 4:17pm. We'd planned on having Kelly's sister pick us up in Sydney, but we honestly haven't made any arrangements yet.

50,000 for military after 4 years. 80,000 would be if i quit and went for a civilian job. 30,000 in military for first three years.

hell with kelly's sister! You like me better. on such a monday 'I' shall be there. and fun shall be had by all.

"I sometimes tire of all the self-aggrandizing I have to do at this stage in my career. I just get tired of trying to sell myself and my research proposals. I feel like I spend more time convincing people that I'm worthwhile than actually working, and it's getting annoying."

Believe it or not, that happens in a lot of fields, particularly when you start having to sell yourself to employers. My classmates and I had a few months at the end of our program during which we had to constantly be talking to possible employers (and the profs) about how awesome we are and how valuable we would be to any organization, when in reality we didn't learn jack shit the entire four years there.

If there's one thing I learned from working at Stora/NewPage, it's that I entered the work force with fuck all for knowledge, which makes it very difficult to talk about how awesomely smart you are. >.>

Yeah, it's probably more the fact that school is quickly becoming more of a career, than an education at this point. I'd have to be selling myself all the time to get any sort of real job too, I suppose.

Well, here's to hoping that I'll end up with a job at the end of all this education :S About the only thing I'll be qualified to do will be an academic, so let's hope that some old professors die off, or finally retire ...

I was always under the impression that professors never did either of those things. D:

if you could stand it, i'm sure cbu would grab you since you already know pretty much anyone that would be doing the hiring and their whole psych staff is your recommendation...
