Tarot Reading

Jan 29, 2009 21:11

I had a tarot reading done on Wednesday by a professional reader. It's not that I believe tarot cards have some sort of paranormal power or anything. I just think that the cards portray images and concepts that touch on some of the universal problems of being human, and they are a good source for self-discovery. Besides, I've been doing a lot of ( Read more... )

Wow, that tarot reader sounds like she was really good. Very detailed and awesome. I've always wanted to get my cards read professionally but I never got around to it. I have a deck of Tarot cards of my own and every so often I read my own cards for fun. I find they are very accurate most of the time. Either way, it's just an enjoyable thing to help you sort out your thoughts sometimes. ^^
I can relate with you on the whole "soul-searching" aspect of your life though. *nod*

Yeah, she had a lot of experience, like 25 years doing it or something. I like just looking at the pictures on the various sorts of tarot cards too. They have lots of symbolism tied up in them, and I guess they really are good for stimulating thought processes.

I figure anything to give the ol' brain something new to think about besides work would be nice for a change...

I don't put any real stock into things like Tarot readings, but I have to admit I'm just as interested in them as you. The reading I had (though this lady used a regular deck of cards rather than a tarot set) was very interesting and since the whole point of her sessions was for you to not give her ANY information, it was very interesting to see what she came up with. You, Kelly, Jason, and Frank all appeared at some point which amused me quite a lot since I honestly wasn't giving her anything to work with. I know how cold and hot reading works (when they weasel bits of information out of you and make educated guesses based on that info) and I'm sure I wasn't doing it.

I should try and hunt down that recording I made...see if anything she predicted came true...

It's just cool how easily humans can put patterns together, such that a coherent story can emerge out of any reading. The reader I went to stressed that tarot readings she was doing were more about self-discovery and the ability for humans to relate to and create meaningful patterns from the cards, rather than being psychic or something like that. I appreciated that, because it made it a bit more about soul-searching, and a less about her telling me things I already know about myself (and thus seeming psychic as a result :p).

Anyways, fun stuff regardless. I'd do it again some day :)

Hey bud.

The old lady just got a tarot reading and palm reading at a Russian tea room in Edmonton. so it's interesting to hear that you got it done as well.

Oddly enough in her readings i came up a lot, and i was associated with a love of water. My believe that such things are akin to where we were born, or lived. I relate it to being from an island.

My friend lori-anne could tell you uncanny stories of a spiritual teller, that she knows. I will tell you a few of the stories she told me, it's uncanny some of the things that go on.

also, there is a little folk tale behind tarot cards, where you are supposed to be given them, and not buy them yourself. not sure why though!

Yeah man, that's a weird coincidence, eh?

Apparently water "energy" is associated with strong emotions, and celebrating the good things in life. Going with the flow and all that. It's kind of cool that we both have affinity for water though. Maybe it really is the island :p

I heard about the not buying your own cards thing too, but I'm not really that concerned about it. I think they're more like a tool for self-discovery, rather than something magical in of themselves. Besides, if I don't buy them, I'll never get a deck for myself ...
