There comes a point in your life when you realize
who matters,
who never did,
who won't anymore,
and who always will.
So, don't worry about people from your past,
there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.
But I hope you guys will stick around!

I have read it three or four times just now, trying to decide what I think of it. In general, I think it's true, and a lesson I should work on learning. I can be horribly sentimental and I "miss" a lot of people from my past. But I know in most cases, while there were good times with them, there is a reason they aren't in my life anymore. This obviously outweighed the good at one point, so I need to remember that.
However, there are a few cases in my past where the "who always will" applies, at least I think so at this time. Had things worked out differently (mainly, had I not moved or had they not moved, which before you're 18 isn't really in your control) they would still be important in my life today. I'm just ... really bad at keeping in touch with people. Not many of them, I can only think of one or maybe two people. But I'm not 100% sure that the last sentence always applies.
Surely I am over analyzing this...

Yeah - I miss people and then feel guilty about the fact that we aren't big parts of each other's lives anymore. But even if it's due to both sides being bad about communication, it's still a reason. There are other things that take the time in lives that we would otherwise be using to communicate... new people, new things, whatever.
Though you're right that probably the main spirit of this bit of poetry is to refer to the people who were bad in our lives who aren't around anymore. :)
