Casino Night!

Jun 18, 2011 14:05

When I'd first come up with the idea of Casino Night, I wasn't sure if it was even possible on the island. In retrospect, that might have been naive of me, because if there was anything I'd learned in over four years on Tabula Rasa, it was that its residents were capable of doing just about anything save getting home ( Read more... )

"I would totally be up for that," Claire replied, finally getting the hang of her heels and weaving through the crowd to say hello to familiar passerby. Checking to make sure the skirt of her dress was still decent, she leaned over to peek at the winnings of the participants at the table. "Like a Super Smash tournament. Or Pac-Man. I totally rock at Pac-Man."

"You are like a teenage boy from the 80's trapped in a cheerleader from the 2000's body," Sam said, smiling over at Claire, whose make up looked amazing. He wasn't sure if the rest of her looked amazing too because his rule of the night was to keep his eyes above the chin of everyone here.

"Female, cheerleader. Because I guess they have both now. Or always have, I'm not sure. Without wikipedia on my phone I'm kind of at a loss."

"A teenage boy, what?" Claire laughed, shaking her head and patting her hair a little self-consciously. "I know that I went a little unconventional with the hair, and I'm sure some people are missing the Miss Odessa-type blonde curls cascading everywhere, but now I look like a boy from the 80s? Ouch. That's harsh, Sam. I think my feelings are genuinely hurt."

Continuing to chuckle, Claire shook her head, stepping back to get a better look at Sam. "Well, you, sir, look like the next James Bond. I wish I could come up with something a little more ego-crushing than that, but no. Sadly, you're very well put-together tonight, Sam." She shook her head forlornly.

"All that cute geekiness, gone."

"No, you don't... you definitely don't look like one. Not even, not even a little bit," Sam said, laughing. Claire looked hot, and not in a teenage boy way. Most definitely feminine.

"Your Pac-Man skills sound like those of the 80's teenage boy. The rest is all, you know, gorgeous, glamorous girl. But thanks, I feel like the tux is really just distracting everyone from the geekiness."

Despite his words though, he flushed a bit at the compliment she gave him.

"Ahhh," Claire laughed, nodding in comprehension, her cheeks dusting over with a touch of pink. That made a whole lot more sense, even if Claire couldn't help laughing a bit in retrospect, that the thought of Sam committing a compliment faux-pas by comparing her look to a boy's didn't seem entirely impossible. It was one of the things that she liked most about Sam, in all honesty, that he was open and honest, couldn't hide much from her even if he tried. "Well, we can both be geeks wrapped in glamor and sprinkled with a bit of 'totally out of her league.' Since this event, it's... I didn't think that they could pull off bringing Vegas here, but that's what they did."

"I've never actually been to Vegas," Sam admitted. That generally seemed like something you did in college anyways, after you joined a frat or the first group of your friends got married or something.

"But if it's anything like those Ocean's 11 movies, then this is pretty close to it, I guess."
