1Basic Synopsis: Junsu is an eighteen year old teen who thinks his life is just too boring. Ever since his best friend left the country and he stayed behind, nothing new seems to happen. That is until is friend, Seung Ri, forces him to go on a double date and by chance he meets someone who might make his life fun again.
When Junsu arrived at school that morning, Seung Ri was already there and as soon as the boy saw Junsu, he quirked an eyebrow and put on an weird expression as if asking why he was there so early in the morning.
“Don’t look at me like that. I just got up early today.”
Seung Ri was left with the feeling that Junsu was totally lying but putting that aside, he smiled, in a cynical way. “By the way, I must thank you. The girl that went with us yesterday was really pissed of at your lack of attention and as a result, won’t go out with us again.”
“Good, because she was boring.”
“Of course that also means her best friend - the one I want to date - won’t go either.”
“Oh.” Junsu looked at Seung Ri, kind of sympatheticly, but not really feeling any of the sort.
“ ‘Oh’? That is all you have to say? You ruin my love life all the time. She could be the love of my life!” Seung Ri said, dramaticaly.
“Of course she could. Along with all you past fifty girlfriends.”
“What can I do? I’m a strong baby” the boy said, with a greasy smile “but you, Junsu, are really perky these days. Any bird surrounding your nest?”
“Not everyone is like you. I just had a very good breakfast.”
“Must be a magic breakfast. I bet the one who gave it to you had long legs and beautiful eyes.”
Junsu’s mouth made an ‘o’ as soon as he heard his friend “How do you know?”
“It was obvious. So tell me how is she like? Pretty eyes, delicate face?
“Actually is a very masculine face… but the eyes sure are pretty and -“
“Wait! Masculine face? Don’t tell me it’s a tomboy?”
Junsu was going to explain that the situation was not quite like Seung Ri was thinking, but decided that it would be better not too, so he just swallowed his words and told his friend that they should go to class.
On the next day, Junsu woke up early again, took his bath, got dressed and left the house, but not before checking more than once that he was looking good. He never did that as he would usually grab the first thing he saw and wear it without even looking at the mirror. Now he would even style his hair beforehand.
Junsu left his house and as soon as he got to the coffee shop he hoped to be greeted by Changmin, but that did not happen.
The boy went near the counter and tried to figure out if there was anyone in there when Changmin surprised him, coming out of the kitchen, holding a tray with a cake.
“Good morning, Junsu. I did not hear the door’s bell.” Said Changmin, putting the tray in front of Junsu.
“Isn’t that dangerous? It could be somebody else.”
Changmin smiled “You are the only one that comes at this hour. So what is going to be today?”
Junsu asked for his usual cappuccino and “something to eat”.
“You are going to be my guinea pig today. I created a new recipe and I want you to try it.”
“What if I don’t like it?”
“I have an open mind and accept critiques. I want an honest opinion, okay? Here you go: raspberry, chocolate and rum.”
Junsu looked at Changmin after hearing the last ingredient and reluctantly ate a piece of the cake, savouring it slowly.
After eating the whole slice, he put down the fork and looked at Changmin with a serious expression.
“So?” asked Changmin, impatiently.
“I have a question for you: How can you make something so delicious?”
Changmin smiled at the boy in front of him “I have talent.”
“Well, obviously, because I never ate nothing so good. I am only worried that I won’t be able to get my pants to fit me considering all the cakes I have been eating.”
“I’m sorry Junsu, you are officially apointed as my guinea pig, besides I’m in charge of feeding you in the mornings, so you have no choice.”
Junsu blushed at Changmin’s statement and put his head down a little.
“I embarassed you.” Junsu nodded. “You look cute when you blush.” Junsu’s face reddened even more and he lowered his head again. Changmin smiled at the reaction and removed the empty plate from the table. At the same time the boy thought that if he wanted to finish the embarrassing events, he should say one last thing.
“By the way, Junsu, can I ask you something?”
“Sure” Junsu said, looking at Changmin again.
“What do you think about me?”
Junsu felt like something had hit him. Hard. “What?”
“At first sight. What is the first impression I give people?”
The younger one tried not to stutter while speaking then “Well, you look like a good person, you are nice and a good pâtissier -“
“I was refering to me as the way I look. What do you think? Am I handsome?”
“Well, you can say that.”
“If I were a girl, would you date me?”
Junsu chocked on his own spit after hearing that. How could a guy be asking him such a thing? “Maybe. Possibly. If I were a girl.”
“And being a boy?”
“I don’t know!”
Changmin sensed that Junsu was not comfortable with that conversation, so he decided to change the topic, but Junsu was faster and spoke first.
“Let me just see if I got it right,” Junsu looked at Changmin in an inquiring way “are you asking me out? As friends or as -“
“As friends would be great. Of course that if we still stay as friends after going out, you will break my heart, but that is okay.”
“B-Break your heart?” Stuttured Junsu
He was stressing out, Changmin could see that “I don’t want you to panic over this, okay? If you are not comfortable or if I am ofending you, feel free to refuse. Do not feel obliged to anything.”
“No, it’s not that” Maybe he was stressing for nothing “It’s just that you caught me off-guard. We know each other for like two days so it’s not a little rushed of you to show your… interest?”
“You noticed me a couple days ago, but I saw you for the first time a few months ago.”
Junsu was intrigued. Months? Maybe he was a stalker or something like that. A very talented and handsome stalker.
Changmin went on. “I saw you about five months ago, sitting on the bench of the park across the street and looking utterly depressed.”
“Five months?” Junsu tried to remember what had happen five months earlier and suddenly it hit him. “I know… that was when Yoochun left.”
“Your boyfriend?
The younger one tilted his head to the side and looked at Changmin, smiling. “No! My best friend. He left to América last summer. Anyway, I got your attention when I was completely depressed and miserable, sitting in a bench at the park? You sure have weird tastes.”
“I was near the shop’s door because there were many remodelings to do here and I came to see the place. Then I saw you there. I used to see you running across the street every day in the afternoon right before we close.”
“Soccer practice!” Junsu remembered.
“It was actually amusing when we collided the other day and you did not even look at me straight.”
Well, that would be natural, the boy thought. “I had never seen you.”
“Fair enough. So, right now I believe I have got you by your stomach, right? If you accept to go out with me I can try and charm you in other way.” Changmin suggested.
Junsu sure did find it amazing how Changmin could say all those cheesy lines without laughing and the worst of it was that he actually blushed at those things. “Aren’t you embarassed of saying those things?”
“Not at all. So how is it going to be? Want to go out with me?”
“Won’t it be weird? Two guys?” Asked Junsu
“To whom? To you or those who see you on the street?”
“I did not say it with that -“ he stopped mid-sentence and just sighed “Ok. When are we going? How about Sunday?”
Now that was not as hard as Changmin thought it would be “Sunday it is. At 6 pm, here. I’ll take you to eat and we can catch a movie later.”
“That sounds like a date. A romantic one.” Junsu says, not knowing if agreeing to the date was the most wise thing to do.
“It is meant to be romantic. I’m trying to charm you, remember?”
Junsu had stopped counting how many times Changmin made him blush with the things he said, but tried not to show him how embarassed he was. He just nodded his head and soon enough said goodbye and left the shop, telling Changmin that he had to go to school.
After a week of going to Changmin’s coffee shop for breakfast, Sunday finaly came and Junsu could not stop thinking about the date. He really did not know what to do and maybe he was afraid of what might happen, but there was something that he could not deny: he was attracted to Changmin.
In a completely strange, unexplainable and probably unorthodox way, but there was attraction. Junsu knew he could not talk to Seung Ri about that situation so he decided to call Yoochun instead. From the other side came a really husky and sleepy voice.
“Yobuseo?”
“Yoochun! I’m sorry, were you sleeping?”
“Yes Junsu. Since it’s 5 am here.”
“I’m sorry. Do you want me to call you later?”
Yoochun cleared his throat trying to sound less groggy “You have awaken me already, Junsu. What is going on?”
“Well… I am going on a date”
Yoochun suddenly become excited “Did you get a girlfriend?”
“Not quite. It’s a guy.” Junsu said and Yoochun remained silent, which made the boy even more anxious. “Say something please.”
“Sorry. Well… do you like him?”
“I feel quite attracted, yes.” Junsu admitted.
“Does he like you?” Junsu confirmed Yoochun’s question “What does he do?”
“The best cakes in all of Seoul”
“Well, I think that there is nothing like trying. If you feel attracted to him, then go out with him and see how it goes. Let it go naturally.”
Junsu remained silent for a while and then finally said what Yoochun expected him to. “Isn’t it going to look weird? The both of us?”
Yoochun sounded amused by his friend’s answer. “To whom? To you or the people who see you on the street?”
Junsu knew he had heard the same answer the other day. “So, am I thinking too much?”
“As always. You are more nervous thinking about what others might think than with the date itself.”
Junsu thought it was quite obvious and normal to think that way. It was not like he even liked a guy before but those words apparently made Yoochun “mad”.
“You used to say that you loved me!”
Junsu was then once again reminded that his friend was quite a dork. “As a friend. I never looked at you any different. Nor I want to.”
“I feel insulted. Saying that at five in the morning can kill one’s self-esteem.
So after a couple more minutes of the usual meaningless talk, Junsu said goodbye to Yoochun and hung up.
Sighing, the boy went to his closet and started by trying to figure out what to wear, occasionally looking at himself in the mirror.
He actually started thinking if that was the right thing to do, to go on a date with Changmin. It sounded wrong, but on the other hand, maybe it would start feeling right.
Junsu did not like big changes, but maybe this time the best thing to do was to give it a try.
