IV: Bride of Chucker | [Voice | Action]

[Mike is... better than he was. The events of the AU were like the best dream he'd ever had, and waking up to harsh reality was all the more painful this time because everyone else remembered the dream too. It was like being stripped bare in no way he'd ever experienced, nudist that he is, and he doesn't like it one bit.

she knows

After thinking ( Read more... )

will she even want to talk to me now?, omg what happened to klunk?!, oh hey being nice to robert, stupid mallies, food can't make this better

[Huh. Now this is a surprise. Mike actually contacting him? Like the birthday invitation, Robert kind of has to blink and check to make sure it's actually Mike talking before he responds.]

Ah, certainly, Mike.

... It's... an interesting process, actually. Would... would you prefer a demonstration, or...? [He doesn't know how eager Mike is to have him around at the moment or ever and frankly, things seem less awkward at a respectable distance anyway.]

[Why is he not surprised. A Japanese woman who was unusually tight-lipped even for her culture and a scientist with no working social cue-recognition. It can't work.]

Unh. [When in doubt, grunt.]

[How very reassuring.

And grunts are always the supreme non-answer for Robert.]

... Maybe some day she will tell me, and... then I can do something.

[Not likely, but he's going to hope.]

Maybe.

[Okay, Mike. Just change the subject. You called him up to be nice to him. Don't be a jerk.]

How's this one look?

[And he shows you a complicated doodle that equals a filter of about 50%.]

[In Robert's eyes, Mike is actually surprisingly being a non-jerk. It's not his fault he brought up a painful topic, after all. How was he supposed to know? Unless Ami told him, but...

... Oh, hey, that filter is starting to get noticeably more impressive.]

... Much improved over your first attempt.

I would say you should continue to refine it... perhaps work in some unorthodox patterning?

Like what? [He adds some shading and a bolds a few lines, inching it up to 53%.]

I was thinking perhaps something more... convoluted.

Something that would distract attention, perhaps like an optical illusion.

[Like MC Escher, except Robert would probably have no idea who that is.]

An optical...

[Annnd he's off. After a few mintues where the only sound will be Mike's pencil scratching, he comes up with something along these lines, which will result in a hefty 76% filter.]

[Even if it's pencil, it is quite a convincing optical illusion.]

... Nearly eighty percent. Well done, Mike.

The only problem with this method will be consistency, I wager. Copying the same figure all the time would make you predictable...

Oh, man. This is harder than it looks.

[He leans back and drops the pencil, rubbing his eyes. Klunk climbs up on his chest, and Robert will probably be able to hear him purring through the journal.]

Robbie- I mean, Robert. Do you think I should do strawberry or blueberry for my first cheesecake?

[Why the hesitation/forced correction? Robert has to question that.]

... I do not mind being referred to as "Robbie", if you prefer doing so. After all, you said it was a gesture of friendship...

[That tone should suggest to Mike that Robert a. is genuine and b. had no idea that Don ever told Mike not to call Robert that.]

... Ah, and as for the cheesecake... perhaps strawberry? That seems to be a very popular flavour.

Though I am very partial to blueberry...

[He thinks your being nice, actually.] No, Donnie told me don't like being called Robbie, so I won't.

How about both? [Red, white and blue- a very nice color combination.]

... Er... I never said anything along those lines...

... Nor did I imply it. [Um. What.]

... I mean, it... is outside of the usual range of things I am referred to, but... not problematic...

...

Ah, and both might be the most egalitarian option. Not to mention the most flavourful. [And pseudo-patriotic! Not that Robert has any idea.]

Oh. Really. [Well. That's interesting. Clearly he and Don-san need to have a little talk.]

Maybe some cherry syrup...

[ya rly

And it is certainly very interesting.]

Cherry syrup does sound quite intriguing...

[Excuse Robert, Mike. He is thinking of the possibilities of this cheesecake and is very enamoured of them.]

And chocolate crust... [He is following you on this cheesecake-flavored flight of fancy.]
