I want to get a new mainboard.  Problem is, I don't have a damn clue what to get.  Stuff has changed so much over the last 6 years that most of the numbers mean nothing to me.  So I'll make a list of what I want... and you guys can help me out ( Read more... )

www.tomshardware.com Tom will tell you all you need to know. And once you know, www.newegg.com and/or www.zipzoomfly.com will have the best prices.

I'm definitely going through newegg when I know what I want, I've been a happy customer from them for years :)

As far as tom's hardware goes, I checked it out but it seemed all about overclocking, and pretty light on the details I wanted to know. On the other hand, maybe I just wasn't looking as hard as I could have been.

Yeah, you didn't look hard enough. Skip the articles and look the comparison charts. Pay special attention to the cost/performance chart.

Don't buy anything labeled "extreme." The only thing extreme about these chips is the price.

No, you don't need two video cards; you're not that hardcore.
