Having read On the Road, and some Ginsberg, I disagree. The sustained massive madness of the book creates a force and pressure that is unique. Epiphenectic. I have also reread it a number of times. No way to take it all in at once. The mind recoils in horror, as it were.
Hmm... anyway, to return to the original question, I suspect the reason may have something to do with the sodomy. Although it is integral to the work, and artistic.
