I've kind of neglected this journal lately, but then that's kind of the nice thing about journals, they're always there when you come back, they don't ask questions, they just sit there, rather like an inanimate object, and welcome you home.
The last actual post I made was way back in December, with only a meme or two and some self-advertising regarding my comic. So what have I been up to since then?
The comic, first of all, continues well, in a couple of weeks we will have been going for three months, which is v exciting for me. As soon as I get back from my trip (more on that in a bit) I'm going to purchase some more advertising, so far I've advertised on
Beaver and Steve and
Real Life Comics and believe me, seeing an ad for my humble little comic on two of the comics that inspired me to actually put something on the web in the first place was a pretty proud moment for me. I'm thinking of running a slightly bigger campaign once I get back with a couple of different ads in rotation, and we'll see how it goes from there.
Work goes well, though it certainly has its challenges at the moment, both good and bad. Let's get the challenging stuff out of the way first. We've got a new project manager, and he is very upfront about pushing us to achieve better results. Now this is an excellent thing, and we're achieving better results than we ever have before. It does occasionally feel like there's not a moment to rest, but that's part of the game. However, it does make some of my job a lot more difficult than it used to be. I did the right thing and organised my 2ic to caretake for me in my absence, and his stats have fallen a bit by the wayside recently, so my project manager told me on Friday if his stats don't improve, I can't use him to caretake while I'm away. Now I'm pretty confidant he will improve, but if he doesn't, then something I took care to fix a month ago has suddenly come undone, and I've got to spend the rest of my week trying to convince people to pick up the shifts of whoever I get to replace him. And I'm not happy about that, and hard as it will be I'm going to have to say so if it happens.
But, good stuff plenty too. We've moved to a new building, which is simply fantastic, 14 floors up, wonderful view of the city, watching rain and fog roll in is simply a sight to behold. New furniture, the promise of permanent desks for full time agents, e-mail for the agents and scheduling systems on my desk are all excellent improvements, and plans for other improvements too. Plus the people at work are brilliant, lots of friendly faces, people who think I'm a lot cooler than I think I am, a team I care for who care for me, and regular fun e-mail conversations with a friend in another project (and given what happened pretty much a year ago, this makes me very pleased and praises to God indeed.)
Creatively, I'm currently working on a radio play with
secondsilk, and it is proceeding amazingly well, the plot pretty much just walked into our heads and onto paper, and now just needs to be scripted out and we can get onto the fun of recording it. More details as they happen.
Lots of EVENTStm occuring too. First and foremost is my trip to Perth!!! Next saturday, I and
cumbernotathome catch a plane to Sydney, then bum around for a few hours before boarding the Indian Pacific, a train that runs from Sydney to Perth over three days and nights, where we shall be met by my dad, my stepmum, and my little brothers. We'll spend a week with them, and then fly back to Melbourne direct. Will be GREAT!!!!!!!
After I get back I shall for the first time ever go to shows from the comedy festival, I've only been to one show ever before, Tripod last year, and so this year I seem to be making up for lost time and am seeing
Dylan Moran,
Daniel Kitson,
Karin Muizneiks (I know her, she's an old school friend, and hilarious, so everyone go and see "Can't Afford A Real Show?"!),
The Umbilical Brothers, and possibly
Tripod and
Ardal O'Hanlan if I get around to it. Many shows, yay!
Last thing to report, I've bought a new laptop! It's very pretty, very fast, and arriving within the next 48 hours. Can't wait!
That's about all at the moment, I'll write again soon, I promise. Again.
Ooroo!
