Stonehenge

So. I have just learned about Stonehenge from some guy (who's name I forget) who is apparently one of the leading experts on Stonehenge inthe country. This would be good if he also happened to be one of the leading lecture givers in the country but he wasn't, but that's another story. I know! It's sort of like imaginging a bunch of weirdos from the future having rituals over a calendar or something :]

Yeah, I found it really interesting.... And the whole "you can predict solar eclipses from it" rubbish. It's just amazing that so much myth and ritual has grown around something that was probably there to do something they saw as fairly practical.

Having said that, i'd still go!

That is a good point, but now that we know that the days will be getting lighter due to the physics of the universe im kinda with you an dont wanna get that cold on the shortest day of the year.

Yup. I'd personally prefer to go on a slightly warmer day myself, but the whole "mystical experience" thing is something that surely should be happening 6 months later... Still would go to see it though, it's beautiful.

Heh, I get you. It's something I find quite interesting, the whole twisting of purpose to suit ourselves. There was one guy in the 30s who claimed that the beaker people were like modern day (for him) western europeans spreading their capitalist ways across the world. It made me smile. He eventually committed suicide because he thought he was getting too old to be an archaeologist and he didn't want to retire. Or something.
