This is a mix for the absolutely fabulous "Our Year Out of Time" by the equally fabulous pjvilar . You can read the story here - and you should read it before you read the liner notes below, because they are chock full of spoilers.
As promised, my crazy review of squee. BB, I love this so much. I listened to it last night while doing some after-posting clean-up and I think you did an amazing job. Thank you again for providing the soundtrack to this story, which is so close to my heart. <3 -- J

Disc One - The Quiet(er) Ones “Have a Little Faith in Me” This is such a rainy/snowy night, walking alone in the street kind of song. Really fits the beginning.
"Alphabet Town" Oh, poor Eliot Smith. This song is so perfect for Brad and Ray. It’s also so bleak and tender at the same time, which is spot on for the whole story. I love how it’s about two people and also about the relationship to the neighborhood. Incredible. The gritty, immediate quality of the live performance also works so well.
"Impressions" Very cinematic and wow, the lyrics are so on for Ray and for Pam, too, in a way. You’re right, he never does entirely get over it.
“Losing My Religion”You know, I especially like that “losing my religion” is a southern aphorism, since there’s that whole

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” Brad at the beginning of the story is April, 1994, which is when Cobain killed himself, so Brad was trying to tell you something. I went through an agonizing internal debate about whether to include that and opted against it, but discussion of Cobain and Nirvana’s music being played was practically the air and water of the country’s pop culture, that month of that year, so I’m delighted that you included this. It would have been on the radio 24/7 at the exact moment this story begins.
"Broken" Speedcore is exactly what Ray likes in my conception of him, so this is really right on. He would totally write the lyrics to this all over the back of that notebook. And I really like Pennywise.
"Orphans"I love that Ray’s angry anthem and Brad’s angry anthem each suit them. Of course Brad’s is more melodic and a bit slower. I’ve never heard this song before and I really liked it, especially for Brad. Can’t you just see him blaring this in a car? In opposition to the stifled

I am so glad you liked it - and I'm so glad I was able to make something that feels like it fits, to you! I had so much fun thinking about how the guys sounded in my head - like, who's more of a loud, growly kind of guy and who's more of a melodic, angry guy - and what would I want to listen to while refurbishing a run down squat? It's a great mental exercise for me, 'cause I'm kind of a huge music nerd.
Anyways - you should check out more of The Gaslight Anthem, because they're amazing.
