dont join nhs. they're a bunch of elitists who go against everything the national honors society stands for--first and foremost inclusivity. this isn't even the typical high school club that people join just to put on their resume--they're that AND exclusive. if one wanted to make a society that helped out the community instead of themselves, they certainly would not ignore those especially willing to help. yes you can join national honors society so that it'll look good on your transcript. or you can boycott an organization that ignores the willing, and do something about the world yourself. nhs is supposed to be a gathering of students with similar interests. indstead, ahs nhs has opportunities known only to their own members. if you really want to volunteer and make the world a better place, do it with people that don't care about your gpa and connections. i am in no way bashing nhs. there are hundreds of high schools that make nhs effective for the entire school. but ahs has somehow taken a great opportunity and turned ( ... )

Congrats on NHS nod; whatever that anonymous fellow says, it's a pretty good organization to belong to. Also congrats on 4th place at Drake...Josh actually did get first but he never showers so I think you have him beat in the life department.

LOL...I mostly agree with Kemily and somewhat agree with the anonymous poster. What the anonymous poster said about how people who are determined to make a difference in the community should not depend on NHS is completely true. You don't need to belong to an organization to positively influence the community; NHS recognizes this very strongly. NHS most certainly encourages EVERYBODY to "make the world a better place," to use the trite expression in the anonymous posting. The selection committee determined the selectivity of the charter members, and everyone who was a charter member was disappointed that some deserving friends were not accepted. I think it's analogous to college applications--a bit random, a bit shallow, but doesn't hurt to apply, doesn't hurt to get in, doesn't hurt to be rejected, it all depends ultimately on your personal attitude and actions in the long run.
