It's funny, I feel bad for everyone who's been through this and lost houses etc... it's going to be a tough time for some people getting their lives back on track, I imagine.
But then at the same time...I kind of wish I'd been there with my camera!
Newcastle is going to have quite a public transport problem on its hands in the following weeks, ain't it? Since, you know, everyone's cars have apparently been waterlogged.
These last two entries, forgive me, have been extremely entertaining to read. I appreciate the severity of this situation, but the benefit, if there can be one, is that your LJ is extremely interesting. I'd even be tempted to say unlock these two entries, especially if you're pissed about the lack of media coverage.
But yesterday when you posted your first entry it occurred to me that you should be one of those front-line reporters who's always on the verge of being shot at by Iranians or reporting on an earthquake while it's happening, 'cause it's made for good reading.
Sounds like the folks-in-law have been pretty devastated by the flood. Here's hoping they can pick themselves up okay, and your bro can stop anyone from being seriously injured.
Wow... cheers, never saw myself as a frontline reporter. Hmm... I used to want to go into journalism, so who knows.
As for Fox News -- well, we're in Newcastle... we have one news station now, and it's under threat of vanishing after the station was sold to the Sydney Nine. So, there's a chance we will no longer have local news soon. And, well, the reason I target Fox News is because they're on 24/7... not a brief 2minute report between television programs.
So, I've made my storm posts public for the time beind. Might make em private again in a few weeks. But, till then, eh.
Oh, also, some have insurance, some don't. Peta's car only had 3rd party comprehensive, so she's without a car now unless, by some miracle, in a couple of weeks time when it's had a chance to fully dry out, it still works... doubtful, though.
Safe is good. It's surprisingly succinct "...declared newcastle a natural disaster area" is when you hear it on the news--and then get to see the extent of the damage. Especially when I remember being in Newie earlier this year, and driving past Maitland (I wasn't asleep in the car at that point)...
I just hope everyone's helping to look out for each other amidst all of this.
Well, there's your standard idiots going round and looting abandoned cars (breaking in and stealing whatever's in them -- sunnies/etc), but otherwise, all are being nice and helpful.

That was quite something to read.
Glad everyone's ok, more or less.
