I just bought some A530s. Haven't fitted them yet. Lack of reflectors is a legal issue (in WA, not in the other states to my knowledge), I'm not convinced that my bike has an actual visibility problem though. Don't know if my new headlight would've been visible when I passed you this morning... it certainly does the business in the dark though :)
ps. I don't think the a530 is a replacement for the m324, my understanding is that it's a replacement for the a520 which has been around a while (Dunc has them I think). The 'a' series are touring pedals, the 'm' series are offroad pedals.
I noticed your headlight was on when we passed today, but I think I noticed your vest first. I did make a note to ask you about your light (and then forgot).
My phrasing was clumsy. Whilst not formally a replacement, I see them as a possible upgrade path for myself. From where did you get your pedals?
The number of WA cyclists who don't even have front/rear reflectors, the number of bike shops where the staff advocate against them, and the difficulty of buying screw-in pedal reflectors in Perth, is a whole other rant in itself (which I'll leave mostly unsaid).
I bought the pedals from bike24 in germany, primarily because I bought the new lights there. Pedals were about $60aud, but bike24 charge postage (20 euros). Bike24's prices seem very low. They were the cheapest option for everything I looked at. For the lights, they were something like half the price of SJS Cycles.
The light is a B&M Cyo Plus running off a hub dynamo - it seems to have a really wide spread compared to my Dinotte - only fitted it last night so I haven't had time to do proper visibility comparisons though a ride around my suburb last night left me impressed - good visibility of the road (and verges) out to 30+ metres I'd say.
The reflector things is a pain. I did try and hunt down wheel reflectors for my home-built wheels but gave up... I don't think reflectors are very helpful though - they need to be right in the beam of light to be visible, which is not generally a mode when you're in that much danger of being unseen. Sheldon has a good rant on the subject.
I don't pretend to be legal ... my pedals and wheels don't have reflectors.
But in the car I have noticed that cyclists with multiple reflective strips dotted about the place are more visible. Reflective tape on clothing helps, lights help, reflectors on moving parts (wheels and pedals) help. Stick 'em where you can!
Pretty happy with the yellow Ortliebs in this regard ... very visible in yellow during the day and big reflectors front and back at night. But we all knew that already :-P
