There's a question now bothering me.

Fingernail clippers have only existed for so long. And fingernail scissors, files, etc.

So.

What did prehistoric peoples do about their fingernails?

Did they somehow file them? Did they eat them? Were they perhaps worn down just by their every day work? Did they grow them out?

Google failed me on this

I imagine that they mostly just got worn down. My fingernails grow quickly and hard, but during the summer when i dig with my hands a lot, they stay short.

Also, i just file them on the bricks outside when they do break. I'm sure some proto-human figured that out. heh.

Probably bit them off or used some tool like a sharpened rock, or roughened rock. Pumice stones!

Sometimes if there is no nail clippers available, I will use an exacto blade to slice through the nail.. little dangerous though. XD
