Remember that Simpsons where Homer is telling the story of his failed mascot job in Capitol City? At the end of it Homer asks Moe why stories of self humiliation make you more popular. His reply: I dunno. They just do. So I guess that's what I'm going for since there is no other logical reason to share this information

everyone forgets to check which side their tank is on BEFORE the first time they need gas. the first week i owned a car, it took about six days to run it out of the gas that had been in it. i went to a station, and pulling in, realized i had no idea which side the tank was on. so i just picked a side (this being a '91, back when they didn't put a little triangle picture beside ur gauge to show u which side it's on...) and of course i picked the wrong one.
and i did the same thing with each of the three loaner/rental cars i've driven as well. it's just not a priority... "hmm, better check that NOW before it's necessary". no. we're all too lazy to think ahead and avoid foolishness.
i never, however, managed to pull up the wrong way twice in a row.
