Anyone know where "Shattered Glass" came from?

I asked this on Twitter, but I think everyone is still asleep, so I'll ask here instead. :) Does anyone know where "Shattered Glass" came from? Was that a deliberate spin off of "The Mirrorverse"?

It is a BotCon thing. I was just wondering whether the name was a coincidence, or a deliberate nod to The Mirrorverse.

I have no idea. I think it was just a theme for that year's boxset and since it also involved a comic, it took off from there. I <3 my Shattered glass Roddy and his goatee. 'Cause you aren't truly evil unless you have a goatee, even if it's a robot goatee. :D

p.s. I wandered here from a mutual friend's journal and added ya. *waves hello!*

I don't think it was an actual nod to Mirroverse, per se, but rather, a way to get around the IP quagmire of MV. Hasbro and FunPub cannot officially acknowledge MV in any way, shape, or form, because they would then have an obligation to "deal" with the infringement on their IP...

But Hasbro is also not so totally stupid as to not realize that their fan base, including fan artists and fanfic writers, are a huge source of free publicity and branding for them.

Also, if they were to offer even a subtle nod to MV, then the folks who actually created MV would have a case for having their idea ripped off. It's why most published authors will not, CANnot read fanfic of their own stuff. Because the IP is theirs, but if they read fanfic and then use the idea from one, well, they now owe someone royalties. So any iteration of "mirror universe" using those words, could, conceivably, be linked back to the fandom's MV... however, since the concept of a "mirror universe" is as old as time itself, (first really made popular by the grand-daddy of ( ... )

Good explanation. Having been one of the writers for Mirrorverse, I have often wondered whether this was a nod, or just a coincidence. I haven't read Shattered Glass, but I know enough to know it's totally different, and that they're not ripping off the MV writers at all. But I had wondered what the awareness level was.

As far as fanfic ideas crossing over into comic book and other writing...I have seen that happen, and not in a good way. I think fanfic writers are supposed to feel "flattered" when that happens, but if you know me at all, you will know that "flattered" would not be the word I would use. So I think it's a good thing that pro writers stay away from reading fanfic, as it's easy to pick up ideas.

Although the "Shattered Glass" moniker is cool, and dang, I wish I'd thought of it. Mad props to them for that. ;)
