John Fowles died. There is a nice obit in The Guardian which one can find here. I never really went for his books, but he did know how to write and any book I ever heard him suggest was always both obscure and astounding. Le Grand Meaulnes by Alain-Fournier in particular was a dream: pre-Great War adolscent French romance at its best.

I need to quit my writing career. I just have no idea what editors want. One minute it is just something to get a viewer's eyes to the next advert, the next they want Shakespeare. What the hell, why don't I dump yet another profession for the sixth time in 5 years.
