Fires!

Well, sooner or later, it was bound to happen. Oak Park now has its very own brush fire, supposedly an outgrowth of the Chatsworth fire (at least that's what I'm hearing). The good thing is that it's quite a few miles away, but I hear the authorities are already evacuating some nearby neighborhoods. I'm going to start packing things, just in case, ( Read more... )

Ack! That's so scary! Don't forget to put important files on disk or something and leave it at school. It would be awful to stress about where all your important documents are in addition to everything else. Let me know, of course, if there is anything I can do! Hang in there!

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the offers. I think the worst of it is over. A few of my dad's friends were forced out of their homes earlier today, but there have been no evacuations in my immediate area, thank goodness. Last I heard, the winds (which have fortunately been light today) were shifting and the Oak Park fire was turning north and travelling over terrain that it already burned. The Fire Dept. seems to be control of everything, and they've even started lighting some backfires to clear out some of the dried brush.

Good vibes received! Looks like we're out of the woods this time. Whew! I think the last of the Oak Park residents were allowed to return home. The focus now shifts to the northwestern part of the Valley. Kudos to the firefighters for keeping everyone safe!
