The down-to-earth people is one of the things I enjoyed the most about the South while travelling. Pragmatic, uncomplicated, polite.

Sure people point to uneducated redneck hicks as a problem, but to those people, you need to look at your own backyard: redneck equivalents exist in every culture.

For sure. It just tends to be much more out-in-the-open in the South.
