Im building an OBD2 LS/Vtec that im converting to OBD1
I have an LS Tranny, iv been told by random sources that LS Trannys dont work well with vtec motors. Can somone elaborate a little on this topic for me. Trannys are my weak knee, im an engine guy.

The tranny will function fine with no problems. But your acceleration won't be as good as it will with a b16 or jdm itr tranny.

My friend has a LS tranny and I am about to install a b16 3rd and 4th gear with a 4.4 final drive.

Hope that helps.

Great write up anonymous May 8 2006, 06:38:27 UTC
Great write up man. I'm presuming for time's/simplicity's sake you took each motor to rev up to 8000 rpm. I feel like that keeps it simple when comparing transmission to transmission, but for example, an LS normally redlines at 6xxx rpm, while an Si redlines at 8200. The actual top speeds in gears are not being accurately shown (my Si tops out around 40 mph in 1st gear, thats how I realized the discrepancy). Still, excellent writeup. Good luck with the MechE (I'm graduating in a couple weeks from BioE, so I can somewhat relate).
