So I'm leaning more and more towards spending my summer riding my motorcycle across the country, ostensibly to my friend Matt's wedding in Boston on August 1st.  In the process of determining if this is feasible, I'm considering all the people I could visit (and therefore couches, showers, and laundry) between here and there.  My possible route ( Read more... )

Today I taught my lesson for the last time in the schools.  We went to this really great school with really sweet well-behaved kids.  They loved my lesson and it went really really well.  They were engaged and having fun the entire time.  Afterwards we went for a walk to the village well and they gave us a big bag of beans to take home.

Well, I´m back in Granada.  I know I haven´t updated in a week, but I actually DO have internet in Ciudad Dario, I´ve just been too busy most of the time to let everyone know how I´m doing.

I´m now doing the volunteer trip, and having a great time.  Out of the 13 teachers in the group I´m one of two guys and four 20 somethings, but it´s ok.  ( Read more... )

Here I am in Managua, the capitol, on my last day on my own before I start the volunteering.  Since my last post I did the canopy tour in San Juan del Sur, sat on the beach went scuba diving, and visited the historic city of Leon.

I´ve been in Nicaragua for close to a week now.  I arrived last Wednesday, half a day behind schedule, because I volunteered to give up my seat and thus got a $400 voucher from Continental Airlines.  I went straight to Granada, bypassing the capital Managua that I flew into.  Granada is arguably the oldest colonial city in the New World, and it´s ( Read more... )

I'm in Houston Texas right now.  I volunteered to give up my seat on my connection.  I was traveling alone, with no one meeting me at the airport and no reservation for the night, so why not?  Now I get to fly first class tomorrow morning, and I have a $400 voucher to vacation with sometime next year.
