Dude, I have the exact same memory! I used to spend what felt like hours turning over rocks looking for the biggest rollie pollies. And I had a little bug cage made of wire mesh and wood that I would deposit them in, sometimes filling it halfway or so before my mother would demand I release my adorable little captives. I would shake the little cage upside down, hoping they weren't getting hurt as they fell back between the cracks in the rocks, disappearing into their sunless little world.
Funny enough, I love naps now, but despised them as a kid.
naps are the best! i think I was just too impatient when I was little to enjoy them. my sister and i had one of those little cages too, she used to fill it with June beetles/bugs in the summer and they would buzz around until my mom made her let them go.
