World Upside Down

I never, ever thought I'd see myself in agreement with Nancy "Tragedy Maven" Grace, but here I am.

Nurses, cops, even 911 workers stand by as woman dies. In the LA Times, there's a description of how a janitor cleaned up around the blood-vomiting woman as she lay dying. (Apologies to Faulkner.) Anyway, it's all over the place.

You know why this hits ( Read more... )

Pretty crazy. At first I feel for the dispatcher... I mean, you're already at a hospital you nuts, damn!... but then I've read about the infamy of that particular hospital for being shitty and wonder if the dispatcher shouldn't have thought it a little more reasonable.

The cops who wanted to arrest a woman who was vomiting blood however have no escape from culpability, IMHO.

Yeah, I felt for the first dispatcher, but I think such should at least generate a call to the hospital from 911services... "This is 911, is there a reason you aren't reponding to an emergency?" Well, something, but there's probably no procedure in place for something like that. The second one, screw that one. You don't damn someone for giving a damn.

Agreed, the nurses are right there too -- at the very least, you don't leave someone spewing blood and OPIM out in the lobby. They should have done something for public health, and the blood thing should have dismissed all but the most compulsive drug-seeking behavior patterns concerns...

Maybe if she *had* been arrested, they would have taken her immediately into the prison infirmary, or whatever they call the infirmary in the hospital where prisoners are treated... Wishard has the one for Marion Co... and she would have gotten treatment. I'd heard a lot about this incident but I didn't know cops wanted to arrest her.

It is awful. :(

It seems that that had arrested her, and she actually died in the wheelchair they put her in to load her into the squad car -- even though there was a substation in the hospital. =( This story is just so messed up!

This sets up huge amounts of stupidability!
If your injured on the hospital roof, or in the laundry room, or in the car park, will 911 telling you that you are at the hospital be sufficient?

Only doctors and administrators can use the in house phones and intercoms, so it is logical to assume that contractors, or employees would call for help if injured, "But sir...you are at the hospital, I can't help you"
lol
This was a failure at EVERY level of society.
