Taking the Penguin Classics definition of classic:

Sons & Lovers by D.H. Lawrence - sort of pastoral and sort of psycho-sexual and sort of industrial and all kinds of pretty.
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys - strange and fierce and feverish.
The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson - either an exploration of the turbulent conflict between the id and the superego in Victorian England or a cracking story about a scientist who goes drinks a potion and goes mental. Nice and short too.
