The words contained in the subject of this post where the words my travelling companion, Steve, assured me would be the only ones he would need during his entire trip throughout South America. I can´t comment for the reasons behind him choosing these words, I´m guessing he only meant this in jest, even if they have the ring of immaturity about them ( Read more... )

The Chilean family friend we have makes that same lisp sound that you describe. Although he's a language teacher and lived for a while in the south of France after escaping Pinochet, so he may have picked it up that way.

Hrm, well they do not seem to make that noise when talking here, at least the random chileans I have met.

I guess I must've misheard them when I was there. When I got back, I asked on one of the language communities on LJ about a couple of pronunciation things in Spanish (I'd figured out what the words were for things like "No wine for me tonight, thankyou", but my accent seemed to get in the way), and the general consensus was that if I'd heard any lisping Chileans, they were immigrants.
