Characters: Break, Ciel, Watanuki Setting: Hallway Time: Late Day 019 Summary: Break and his evil henchmen Watanuki and Ciel investigate these whispering little bugs. Warnings: OM NOM NOM BEETLE BITES. ( Also the cat's friends.... oops, sorry guys. )
Break just smiled at Watanuki; he hadn't meant to lose, but losing still served his purpose. But he wasn't about to discuss it in front of Ciel-- actually he wasn't likely to discuss it behind Ciel's back either, it hardly seemed necessary, but if Watanuki asked then he wouldn't refuse. Ciel, on the other hand, wouldn't drag an honest answer out of him in a million years.
"Of course it wasn't! But it's true, isn't it? Why, you're even coming to look at the beetles with me! Now shoo, go find something thick to put on." He waved Ciel off and turned his attention back to Watanuki.
"They seem to speak. Not directly, but someone is speaking and it appears to be echoing through them; I've never seen anything like it. You'll want to take that, though--" he nodded at Watanuki's sword-- "I imagine they could be quite dangerous if they wanted to be."
"Did you read the fine print? I'm sure it was and you just didn't notice." He smiled faintly, lips twisting as though they didn't quiet remember the guesture.
He dismissed the child's description, focusing on Break and analyzing. "You think they could help us? Whispers, if they're ghosts, or even just echos... it could be a clue." His free hand tightened. Death had healed the skin, left him without a scar. But he could still remember the agony of raw nerves being exposed to the air, could still remember the burning and the pain as they punished him for not surrendering the note.
His lips pressed into a thin line, considering and then nodding. It's dangerous to be alive here, there was nothing to be lost in seeking out danger face to face, and perhaps much to be gained. Perhaps Break saw the silent message, the consent as he moved towards him. "Let's go invite them to supper, then. I wonder if Beatles like fish?"
Luffy nuzzled Break's hand one last time, stepping down from the bed and to Watanuki's side with a chrip.
While Break had a good point, that going near the beetles without some protection from biting would not be a good idea, Ciel would most definitely not be getting anything that Break told him to at this point. Only the Queen ordered Ciel to do anything. People requested things of him, not demanded. He would be damned if he was going to start taking orders now. He would get something thicker when he pleased.
He hissed at Watanuki, "There was no fine print. It was a straight forward bet that Break lost. To try to use his loss like this- it is petty and childish.
"Still, the voices are interesting," he said more calmly. "I am not keen on investigating them myself, however. It seems foolish."
"He's right again! A straightforward bet, and I lost, all completely fair." Still, the twinkle in his eye suggested that there was more to the story; there was no fine print because Break was too careful to keep it that visible. No, his motives were written in invisible ink. And truth be told, if Ciel could manage to be more authoritative-- say, refuse to move, or start walking away, or do anything other than whine a lot-- then Break would obey him and adhere to the contract. But Ciel wasn't clever enough to figure that out, and Break was clever enough to drag Ciel along on his own plans, so Break won out. If he was very lucky, Ciel wouldn't figure it out before the three nights were up. So far, so good

Nothing with you is ever straight forward. But he didn't say the words, scooping up his bag and dropping his hand to the fox's head as he passed.
So what had Break gained from the services of a child? What did he stand to gain from having a child to act as a shield.
"No loss is a true loss until nothing is gained from it." And Break always gains something from it. He sighed a bit, studying the child for a moment. He was an angry little thing, full of himself.
"It's never 'foolish.' Dangerous, perhaps. But if you just sit still, all you'll be doing is waiting for the dark masters to take you to their lair when they're done feeding you to the monsters as many times as you can. Keep moving and we'll keep finding things out, sit still, and you'll just be another name." He should really look at taking his own advice.
"Sushi, Break, it's Sushi. And maybe, why don't we just take one for study instead?"
