I've succumbed. The BBC Sherlock pops up on my flist here and there. And then saw the Robert Downey Jr movie last week so was in a Sherlock mood. Then it starts popping up in conversation at work, the BBC show I mean. So finally decided it was time to check it out ( Read more... )

I asked my sister today and she said BBC version is better than films which she found too loud and too busy.

I would say the movies vs. the BBC are totally different animals. I really like both. I take the movie as a Guy Ritchie movie, and you get what you would expect from Guy Ritchie, so it's a lot of fun if you like that sort of show. The guys at work all want to see it, so we may take a field trip to the movies one day soon. I would totally see it again.

The BBC Sherlock definitely delivers more of the detective procedural with the Sherlock-style gimmicks one expects. Also, I am really liking Watson so far, but then I already liked Martin Freeman. :->

I agree, I love both version because they are so different. It's like having two fandoms with the same characters, two AUs. And that's what's so awesome about Sherlock Holmes, there are so many incarnations and every one of them adds something great. And it's lovely.

I think her comments were based on what you cite as:

"..more of the detective procedural with the Sherlock-style gimmicks one expects."

I know she dislikes intense noise as I do. I am just not impressed anymore by a lot of CGI which seems to replace story line anymore.
I also find Law annoying so not sure I want to spend two hours with him even in a Holmes and Watson film.
I held my nose to see Cold Mountain with Nicole and Renee. He reminds me somewhat of Leslie Howard who played Ashley Wilkes years ago in Gone With The Wind. The same wuss look. Just not impressed.

I have seen trailers for the modern version of Sherlock Holmes and think I might put a hold on it at our local library.

S2 will air on BBC America in May, so until then, no legal downloads, I guess. The DVD will be out in R2 this month, though.

I'm glad you like it. Ep 102 is my least favorite episode but ep 103 totally makes up for it. Like whoa! And S2 has been excellent so far.

I guess May isn't so bad. Not like I have to wait a year or something... :)
