196: Make My Day. Ideally, Make It Better.

Jul 31, 2009 23:27

The other day, a blogger I read intermittently said she really loved packing and moving. I had to leave the computer for fifteen minutes to avoid leaving a comment that a) called her a psycho lying liar pants b) advised her to seek therapy IMMEDIATELY for the sake of her children and c) begged her to come take care of our move, since she likes it ( Read more... )

I have a friend who worked out in advance how much he wanted to pay for a particular car, and called the dealers to say "I want to buy an X for $Y, today. Can you do it?"

One dealer took him seriously and sold him the car. Everyone else dithered, and was disappointed when they called the next day, or three days later, to say that OK, they could do that price.

I thought it was hilarious....

My work manager recently did this too. Walked into dealership X, told them his max that he was willing to pay bi-weekly (taxes, fees, etc., all in) and which vehicle he wanted (and which colour interiors he did NOT want - 4 children made that not optional), and which options were non-negotiable and which were, and said to them 'make it happen or I go to dealership Y'. he drove off the lot with the vehicle he wanted (with a couple options that were negotiable) less than 3 hours later (it took 2 hours to get the correct vehicle transported from the nearest dealership that HAD it ( ... )

My #1 comfort snuggle fic of all time, which, although I am sure you have read it and possibly even rec-ed it, could be read again: Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead. Because: the football jerseys. Rodney's cat. It's totally a happiness-inducing fic.

Things you may not have already read from misc fandoms:
Ulterior Designing by busaikko (Harry Potter - Snape/Lupin - Snape owns a yarn store. I'm just saying.)

Take Atlantis by siegeofangels (SGA/Muppets)

The Secret Diary of Emma Thompson by peak_in_darien (RPS - Stephen Fry/Hugh Laurie)

My absolute, sure-fire, I've-read-this-a-hundred-times-and-still-laugh-out-loud-each-time, happy fic is actually the two stories of gekizetsu's 90 Proof Series, in which Dean is determined to corrupt Castiel and Sam goes along to work damage control. Mostly gen (just the slightest hint of Dean/Castiel innuendo).

Eternally Needing Proof: http://gekizetsu.net/sn/90proof.htm (Castiel discovers tequila and Cheetoes)

Smite Your Bitch Up: http://gekizetsu.net/sn/smitey_smite.htm (Castiel learns to swear. Really, really badly.)

in re: packing. I'm with you. When we move from this house, whether it's in two years or twenty, I'm just selling it furnished and with the closets full. Even the pantry. I'll get to where I'm going and hit IKEA, I swear.

Now as for my soft fuzzy comfort stories. My personal self indulgent guilty pleasure is kid fic. Pandarus just posted another bit of the John Gabriel Winchester series That's the most recent one, but the others are linked there, because she loves her readers and wants them to be happy. It's not really a wip. Each story is self contained and John Gabriel is possibly the cutest half angel that ever walked the earth. As opposed to the cutest quarter Vulcan to ever walk the decks of the Enterprise in Role Model and it wasn't until I went back to find that link that I realized that was one of hers, too, so let's find you something that isn't kidfic and isn't Pandarus.

Have you read the Jim Kirk as a LOLcat story in the kink meme? The last two sections are buried in the threading, so you kind of have to dig for them ( ... )

Can that be done? It seems like a genius idea....

Sort of. I don't know what the rules are in other states, but I know that when a friend bought her house, the previous owner didn't want to move her dining room table and so sold it to my friend for a hundred bucks, cash. We might seriously consider doing that with our china hutch. I thought my husband and our friend were going to have heart attacks getting it into the house. Either we'll leave it for the buyers or we'll split it into sections that fit a fireplace. It's a pretty piece, but not worth the deductible for the cardiac ward ( ... )

My love for 'Junk Cheap' cannot be expressed in words. Just in millions and millions tiny hearts: ♥♥♥!

Hmmm, a rec from my current obsession - Zach Quinto/Chris Pine RPS: Adventures in Oblivion or How Zachary Quinto Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Pine by ruintooeasy. Wherein Chris is adorable and Zach does his very best to avoid crushing on him. He fails miserably. :D
