"...fathers that never were;"

What do you mean by that? As in, the fathers that never took responsibility for their children, or abandoned their wives?

I guess I mean both. Generally, any father who was not part of his child's life. I grew up with just a mom, and that affects the way you look at life.

Yeah, I understand. I grew up seeing my father only on the weekends for the first 12 years of my life. After I moved to Austin, I saw my father only sporatically. Now, I only see him once or twice a year, mainly of my own choice.

There's something else which seems interesting to me. Before the discovery of the genetic cause of homosexuality, psychologists believed homosexuality to be caused by the lack of a strong male figure in a boy's upbringing. You almost seem to be a living argument for that theory.

Of course, the thoery also just happens to be completely bogus. As a matter of fact, 2Pac Shakur was brought up by a single mother.

Now that you mention it, I'm a living argument for a whole stack of theories!

That's beautiful. It's those little moments in life, those little things we don't notice, those small details about the people around us that tell us their story. It's all there if you just know to look for it. I love that.

It's hard to see them unless you are really looking. And since I'm not always looking, I try to capture them when I do.
