I looooooooooooove trains and overnight train trips especially. So I vote yea on that. And I wish I could come and see you in your hotel! Alas.
I'd much rather do HP park and Epcot than Disney, but I'm not that big into rides. Magic Kingdom does actually have good rides, and Animal Kingdom's kind of fun. Since you like animals and all ;)
Hee! Of course, bb. I will still never understand how you guys fangirled through grad school but I suppose you are just that amazing. ;)
Yay!! on the train info. Thanks! I'm really psyched about it and glad to hear it gets your stamp of approval.
Yeah, I don't really expect anyone to be able to drop everything and visit Orlando, but I figured I'd throw it out there. I mean I feel like the room is so huge (and Orlando has so much to do) that it's wasteful to just have me in it. (I usually get a cheaper hotel within walking distance of the conference. This one comes as a package though so mega-suite it shall be.)
Thanks for the suggestions on the parks. I'll see what strikes my fancy I suppose.
I need to read the rest of this, but YES, GO BY TRAIN! It is awesome and spacious and civilized and my experience has absolutely been of people minding their own business except to be friendly. I'm actually taking my daughter coast-to-coast on the train this summer. We're both very excited about it.
Awesome!!! I'm so glad that you and Mary both give the train a thumbs up. I think it will be a fun adventure; I just needed a little push of support and reassurance that everyone is civilized. ;)
I'll be boarding around this time tomorrow. *fingers crossed*
I also vote train! I took the train a couple of times from LA to Olympia when I was in college. I slept in my seat, chatted if I wanted and read when I didn't. I've taken shorter train trips since then. Trains are super fun.
I'm no help when it comes to Florida. It's really far from Seattle.
LOL, bb. You crack me up. Agreed, it is far from Seattle. :P
Super cool news on the train goodness. I dunno why I always fear for the worst (serial killers, stolen luggage, yelling on cell phones at 4am, people with box cutters in their shoes b/c the TSA Big Brother isn't checking, etc.)
I suppose it says something about my psyche. (No need for ink blots, just ask the crazy girl what she thinks of when someone says "train"...heh!!) I tend to do well in crazy situations; I just prefer to know what I'm getting myself into if possible!!
I've had to deal with annoyed people on the train, but mostly there's a feeling of we're all in this together on long trips and an even mix of commuters and day trippers on short trips.
The last time I took the train, I was easily the craziest person there as I was traveling with two small children hopped up on snack bar food and adventure. :D
I am too impatient for trains - sorry! But I bet you already knew that about me. *grins* (I'm often too impatient for planes too though. hee hee!) Your trip sounds so AWESOME and I'm terribly sad I'm not nearby enough to pop in and visit with you. Our 'for REAL' meeting will have to wait for D*C.
I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!
*hugs super tight* Have a fabulous trip / educational excursion / fangirl mecca meeting! I will be there in spirit.
Gah! LJ ate my ENORMOUS comment :>( And I'm too tired to try to write it all over again so I'll just say HAVE AN AWESOME TIME! I wish I lived close enough to come too!
*ranty fist at LJ* The other comment was WAY better. :>S

I'm sure there's still plenty of crazy, but I think nerves are less frayed, people feel less rushed and frantic... a whole lot of really good things.
Anyways! Professional development! How awesome. I hope it's enjoyable, and I hope you like Orlando.
