Extended Breastfeeding/Asking For It

I have a lot of friends irl who did not breastfeed past 6 months. None of us begrudge each other. Our kids get fed, whatever.

However, since beginning the breastfeeding journey I have repeatedly heard, "if they can ask for it they're too old for it."

I don't have wee ones so I've never felt inclined to express my thoughts, but it bugs me too. It's like you said.... hell, all children "ask" for food. whether it's crying, signing, or verbalizing, it's still asking. I mean, really.

Boobs. People are soooo opinionated about them!

My kid basically never had nursing cues after the rooting reflex went away. My life would have been infinitely easier if he had asked for it.

Last week at Burning Man, where we had three kids present, two of the single guys said, "Breast-feeding a six-year-old is kinda wacko, but NOT breastfeeding your kid until they're one? I just don't get that."

You might want to stop it by the time the babies have girlfriends. Until then I wouldn't worry too much about what other people think.

Breast milk is a whole lot healthier than anything you can get in a formula, anyway.
