Like anything else you want to succeed at, apathy is something that requires a lot of practice. You can't just walk into a situation and claim to not give a shit about it when, in every other situation of your life, you've expressed care. You'll fail miserably. Apathy is my shield and my armor. Total apathy, of course, is impossible... You have to have some sort of reasoning to make yourself believe that "X" does not matter, and therefore, you have a reason to not care... You're not 100% apathetic...

But I still find just not caring easier than giving a shit...

I totally agree. Not caring about "X" in the first place helps you get over any let-downs that "X" may have caused. And, if you have the optimal level of apathy concerning "X", it probably won't affect you at all.

I wonder if, 1 million years from now, the human species (if not extinct) will be inherently apathetic and desensitized.
