write your award winning essay on the idea that perhaps the holocaust meant more than just preventing atrocities in the future. that sufferers and survivors, historians and scholars, jews and non-jews alike might be different people now because the holocaust has occured, and whether we were alive or not, it has affected everyone on earth today. regardless of whether mankind commits unrestricted terrible killings on such large scales, nothing would excuse the holocaust: it would have been in vain even if the world had been utterly peaceful afterwards, and therefore to try to turn it into a morality lesson is demeaning and wrong.
