Harley and the Nolanverse

Aug 19, 2008 20:25

The last post on jokerxharley gave me an illumination about my position on the "Harley in the Nolanverse" hypothesis. As I said there:

I don't know. For a strange reason Heath Joker appears much more asexual than any other Joker for me [...] People keep saying how grittier Harley would have to be to work in the Nolanverse, but for me it's the reverse. She ( Read more... )

Joker: Oh come on, Batman. 'Cuz she's my girlfriend (grabs Harley by the waist and place a big smooch on her cheek.)

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! I can totally picture Heath Ledger Joker saying that. :P

I know! In like, a totally fake way, because "that's what people do when they're in love, right?" manner. Just like, "Harley, meet my new friend Batman." Batman is not his friend at all, but in his mind, he's his best playmate, just like Harley is his "girlfriend".

Oh well. I'm half tempted to write it all.

I can totally see this working. I mean, it's a tad painful, but...for the Heath!Joker, all he needs is a playmate. A gal friday. "She looks pretty and gets my jokes, Harley Quinn! Give her a hand! Now stop and pay more attention to me." Sex and deeper feelings never enter into it. That Joker, I am not hesitant to say, is a very child-like character, much more than ours. And it works.

Exactly. I mean part of what makes me view Joker as sexual is how in control he always seems. He surfs the waves of madness! Heath Joker is so...lost in it, it's like he's just thrown by the waves (the whole "I'm a dog who's chasing cars" idea). Harley and him being lovers would be nothing more but a grotesque parody of a couple...like kids (flash: Joker's playing with the detonator outside the hospital...kid behavior).

ARG. I need to stop talking.

In kind of a "I don't know what the hell I'm doing but it's fun way"? lol

I don't know. I fear that we don't really have as much as we were eventually going to get with his character now that Heath's dead. Maybe I'd be able to commit to his character given more to go on. I have this terrible feeling that they only got to scratch the surface and it all would have been made a glorious picture had we an opportunity to get more.

...Now I'm just depressing myself. :(

Kinda like it :) "She's my girlfriend" "...which means?" "Well...whatever a girlfriend implies!"

Take it positively. They don't get the chance to ruin him (although many will say it's impossible for Nolan to screw Batman.) Plus it stays open to interpretation, instead of cristallizing the "Heath IS THE ULTIMATE JOKER EVAAAAH" thing. -_-
