Postcard Stories

I started collecting postcards awhile ago. It's not necessarily the postcards that I'm interested in, but the stories, the notes written on the backs of the postcards! And not those, "we love it, don't want to come home, wish you were here" notes, but the ones with spice, scandal and story to them. Here's a sample of what I've started collecting. My dad's dad collects postcards and has for years. He has closets full of postcards, literally! He has them in folders according to category: angels, specific holidays, patriotic, etc. When Chris and I were there last summer we looked at them for quite a while. The rest of the family (the ones who live there) seem to think it is just another thing to collect (I'll admit, he collects everything from coins to bricks to plates to stamps) but there is just something wonderful about a postcard sent a hundred years ago...

Wow, 100 years ago! Man, that's cool!

Is he the same granddad who collects the stamps? I'm really excited - Mod Podge came out with a product that acts like a resin, so it'll be easier for me to make the stamp pendants!! YAYAY!!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with these postcards. I've posted them on my non-LJ blog. Maybe I'll just file them away now that they're blogged and people can see them. I think that's the thing I like about them. I love the stories. I found this autograph book from the 1920s. I really want to buy it, it's not expensive, and scan all the pages in it. The notes are sweet and funny. You can tell that they were written in fountain pen because of the ink drops. I just love that stuff. I want to preserve these stories.

I mean how funny - an old postcard with a more contemporary story about running off and getting eloped!

Oh wow! How fun is this!! How cool would it be to find the families of these postcards?! I'd love to know how the elopement played out.

Also, just wait until the 20 postcard story comes up LOL! I almost don't want to know how that guys turned out.
