I stumbled onto this as I was searching for other Tannehill family stuff on the net.
If you're interested the Tannahill family wasn't tanners. Rather we were indentured servants to the Boyd clan of Scotland (a type of slave). This is because the Boyd clan found an orphaned boy near Tanna Hill (the hill that the town took it's name from). The Boyd clan took the boy in but made him earn his keep through work.
So Tannehill's are definitely Scottish, not Norwegian, and our profession was "housekeeper" as the social standing of the family was too low to be given an apprenticeship.
