Calling All Mercenaries

Oct 11, 2011 13:03

It was no secret that Erik had a certain amount of distaste for mercenaries: people with no loyalty to anyone. Or, if anything, loyalty that was cheaply bought and sold ( Read more... )

Scott had been wondering about this mission nearly the entire time since he'd gotten it. He knew there was an initiative to Alkali Lake in the works, but wouldn't have connected it with Erik or Charles, honestly. That seemed more like a Logan thing to him. Especially since in his time, Logan had been directed there by the Professor in order to help figure out his past. As far as he knew, it hadn't worked.

Still, after a good day of class planning, reading, and working out, Scott had showered and turned up at Erik's door nearly 10 minutes early. He wasn't sure who else was invited, but Scott worked by the principle that being early was on time, being on time was late, and being late was being left behind. And he was never late in any sense of the word.

Entering, Scott nodded to Erik politely. "Afternoon Mr. Lensherr."

"Mr Summers," Erik replied crisply. "Please have a seat," he suggested, moving one of the room's steel chairs closer to Scott with his power.

Having gotten the note for the meeting, Yuriko was indeed curious which mission this pertained too as she already had some inklings about the trip to D.C. but this didn't seem to be about that.

It was a few minutes before five, by the time she arrived at Erik's office. However she didn't think it would be much of a issue that arrived early. It wasn't as if she had other pressing matters to attend that cause her to be late. She gently tapped on the door as she entered as a way of announcing herself.

"Mr. Lehnsherr." She said politely with a nod of her head, before glancing over to Scott and giving him a polite nod as well.

"Yuriko," Erik greeted marginally more warmly, nodding for her to have a seat as well. "Thank you for coming."

Yuriko opened her mouth to reply but Charles stepped into the office as she had been moving off to the side to take a seat. She offered Erik a small smile and another nod of her head in acknowledge before taking a seat. Before looking toward Charles and giving him a polite nod in return. Though she chose to remain silent for now and see what exactly was in the works.

Charles had been taking it relatively easy over the past few days, more or less to appease his friend and show that he would not overdo it. In doing so, he spent most of his time quietly working out the design and development of the new Cerebro, as well as lesson plans for what he wanted to teach the students about genetics. Truthfully, he was eager to get started on that more than anything.

However, there were other things that needed to be addressed and the trip to Alkali Lake was something that had been talked about far too long.

The young telepath rounded the corner, not long after Scott, and greeted the two men with a warm smile.

"Afternoon." he greeted simply.

"Charles," Erik said, glancing over with a hint of a smile, pleased to see him looking so well.

How are you feeling? he concentrated mentally, as he nodded towards the only chair near his own, on his side of the desk, hoping Charles would pick up on his thought.

He glanced over to Yuriko, also giving her a nod before turning his gaze to Erik.

Never felt better, my friend he sent his response back, and moved to sit in the chair beside Erik. How are you today?

Erik gave Charles a bit of a rueful glance.

You won't like the answer.

Wade arrived surprisingly close to on time, clutching that same note that had been slipped under the door, now resembling more a balled up wad of paper more than an important mission notice. Naturally, the second the door opened (or rather, flew open, as any door you can open with the handle is more fun to kick open with your boot), his mouth was already going a mile a minute.

"So, am I late? The party hasn't started yet, right? Any chance they've got any of those tiny little hot dogs left? I do love me some weenie-tots..."

Erik looked up as Wade walked in, running his mouth as usual. He gave the mercenary an unimpressed look.

"Sit," he said. It wasn't quite the tone one would use with a dog, but it was certainly the tone one would use with a subordinate. Erik had a feeling Wade was the sort that needed reminding where he stood.

All the reminders in the world might not be enough to get through a certain regenerating skull, but with the promise of a solid job and some good old fashioned splatter-fest violence against somebody who really deserved it, he was feeling in a particularly good mood.

So to wit, he pulled up one of the wooden chairs, quickly taking a seat- before putting his hands up in exactly the gesture a dog might after obeying a command. "Deadpool sit! Deadpool sit good! Deadpool get treat now, does he does he does he?"

Fortunately for all involved, that 'treat' would be just as well appreciated in the form of mission objectives.

"Sounds like you've had enough of the flavoured sugar you favour already today," Erik said flatly. "Do I need to squeeze your adamantium-plated larynx shut or can you manage a few moments silence on your own?"

John wandered in right before five, giving Erik a respectful nod and finding a chair off to the side.

He glanced at the Professor and then Scott. The rest of the team were older than him and Erik wanted him on the mission. He didn't know what the mission was, but he felt very important.
