I've been in that situation before actually. I had been sitting at the light for like 10 minutes, no lie, and it never changed to green. I got sick of waiting and nobody ever pulled up behind me so I just went.

Oh yeah, this was making a left turn.

Hmm, I feel like turning off your lights behind someone in that situation might seem shady and/or unsettle them. That is, at least, until it caught on.
