Oh, that's so sad. That picture from 1970 just broke my heart! I mean, it was getting progressively worse up until then (especially watching that gorgeous mansion in the background disappear), but that jump from 1960 to 1970 was jarring. Blech.
agreed. It starts as this neat little area with great houses. Then you see houses starting to disappear and buildings go in. Then more buildings appear and get bigger and bigger than *poof* they tear down almost 100 years of history and its a big ugly hill and pavement. Then you see they building big sky scrapers there. I agree with you. It was sad to see many of the houses and such being torn down up until 1960 but the jump from 1960 to 1970 was heart breaking.
I'll admit I'm totally intrigued by the vegetarian sign in the 1912/1918 pics! It seems so incongruous to me. I didn't realize there was a vegetarian movement before the sixties.
