OK, so saw GP today, my surgery on Mon is canceled and she's sending me, on the recommendation of Dr. Parvizi (the hip doc in Philly), to see their spine guy out of Rothman Institute. Dr. P. says the local doc has no experience with managing high-risk infection patients at all. I am a walking plague ( Read more... )

getting an MRI is a great idea, just to see if there's anything unusual in addition to the damage already there. (they don't want to be surprised by anything they come across... you sure you don't have something living in there, hmm?).

and you're NOT a walking plague. it's better to be seeing someone who has experience than someone who doesn't. if they have no experience, they may not want to learn, and if they have NO experience, they wouldn't know about basic cleaning protocol. and next thing you know, there's an outbreak in the community. better to be SAFE and go where they're dealing with these things all the time, and know what to do.

I agree with this completely. After the roller coaster ride of symptoms and infection, they don't want to take any chances of things getting worse before they get better.

Yeah, I (and my GP) agree that my brain should have been imaged with the first set of MRIs. Kids have a dental appt tomorrow too; run, run, run.

It sounds like the specialist at the Rothman Institute is the better man for the job.

I hope the MRI results are good!

Yeah, Rothman is a pretty sharp group. Check them out here:

Dr. Parvizi (the hip doc) is there as well as Dr. Rihn whom I'll be seeing for my spine.
