Out of curiosity, do you practice interval running (jog, sprint, jog, sprint) or do you just jog it out?

Do you consider running a hobby, a fitness routine, or do you want more stamina for your martial arts training too? Multiple answers?

This quiz will count as 25% of your grade, btw

Primarily I motivate myself to run to improve my Parkour, actually, and hope that it will benefit my overall fitness as well. Also, I'm a very poor runner, so it's something I want to work on to improve my cardio in general as well. Also, definitely not a hobby ^^;; if I didn't think it would help out with the activities I do consider hobbies, I probably wouldn't do it... I've never been a fan of running.

So, the short answer is fitness and to supplement Parkour.

for Parkour, the kind of running you're doing now is probably best.

However, there are two kinds of stamina: aerobic and anaerobic. Martial arts and other high activity things are anaerobic, the body is moving at a very high pace for a short period of time (using mostly Type 2B muscles which produce more power but tire quicker). This is why long-distance runners will tire after a few rounds of sparring. Interval running is better for this activity, sprinting to produce speed and power and endure that (power endurance), rather than a longer time which will use different muscles and systems entirely.

Oh, I understand those things. In fact, when we do running for our Advanced KB class (which I expect will start up again soon w/ the improving weather), we usually do ladders, where we run in a line and the person in the back sprints to the front, lather, rinse, repeat. Lemme just frame this with the fact I'm a shitty runner EITHER WAY XD;; I'm usually trying hard to focus on continually putting one foot in front of the other, nevermind changing tempos... I do try to add in the interval sprinting occassionally, but... I'm a pretty sucky runner (literally! I suck wind pretty hard...) It takes me a long time to get good at running, and I've only done it once, and it took me a long time from what I remember. Not one of my body's strong suits :/ thanks tho!

Oh, and actually more than a few Parkour people I know like interval sprinting better than endurance jogging, actually. Again... I suck at running ^^;;
