[Hello, Vatheon! Say hi to Yomiel, who is currently hanging around GrubMart, looking through the various things they have for sale. He turns on the SFC, looking as if he is mentally deliberating something.]
I've noticed for a while that there are computers out and about in some of the shops...I have a question. Does anyone actually use them? ( Read more... )

so bored over here, filtering to my own madness, brb bothering terezi, give me some work, totally not going to hack your servers, best computer programmer ever

[[...what does he mean "what these are?" That should be a fairly obvious fact. Perhaps he hasn't read up on sylladices enough to know the terminology. She's yet to consider the possibility that people who aren't from their world don't have sylladices.]]

That's a captchalogue card. It's used to store and recall artifacts, and is kept within the captchalogue deck of one's sylladex.

Store artifacts, huh? Like real physical objects?

...And what, exactly, is a sylladex?

Yes, such as computers. Laptops would be a better option though, because it would be a little impractical to store a desktop computer what with all of the hardware it requires.

And you really don't know what a sylladex is? A sylladex is your inventory of sort. Far more useful than a satchel of any sort, unless it happens to magical. And then it would be up for debate.

Yeah, I can understand that.

No. We don't have sylladexes back where I come from. Though, the word "inventory" just makes me think of a video game, really. Back home we just store stuff in boxes. Or bags. Sometimes both.

You don't? How curious.

Boxes and bags honestly cannot compare to a sylladex, despite still having their uses in our universe. While yes, they are capable of storing items, they have weight and size limits. From my knowledge, a captchalogue card is able to store anything, despite the sylladex's owners capability of carrying the item themselves. Not to mention you are able to store a wider assortment of items that would normally not fit together in one bag or box.

At this moment, I am carrying my laptop and violin on my person, as well as a rather daunting grimoire.

[Yomiel raises an eyebrow. This sylladex thing is sounding better and better by the minute.]

Really? How come I can't see them, then?

They're stored within the sylladex.

[[Here Yomiel, have Rose bringing up her own sylladex in example. Her cards are arranged in the shape of a tree, with three of them containing items - the said items she described earlier.]]

[Yomiel's eys widen behind his sunglasses. Now that is a sight to see.]

...Wow. And I presume you just take them out and access them that way?

You are exactly correct, though the method of retrieval depends on the Fetch Modus currently equipped to your sylladex. The Modus also decides how artifacts are stored.

I use the highly elegant Tree Modus, which arranges items I captchalogue into...well, a tree, as you can plainly see. The first item I captchalogue is the root of this tree, items following becoming branches, and further becoming leaves of these branches. Items that are deemed the 'leaves' are ones I can most easily access. Until they are moved into either the root or leaf position, I cannot access any branch item. Should I attempt to use the Root item...well, my sylladex then empties itself around me, as I've taken the base out from under the items.

...It isn't exactly the most practical, in retrospect. I may look into purchasing a different Modus at some point in the future.

[Yomiel takes this all into consideration, his mind turning over the details.]

Yeah, it does seem a bit impractical...but at least you have some control over what you want to take.

[A pause.] Can...anyone have a sylladex? Or just you people?

Yes, that is a good point. Some are not so lucky, needing to captchalogue an item until the last one in their sylladex is forced out.

As for anyone...I actually don't know. I haven't considered the possibility that those from other universes wouldn't have one up until now, so the idea that you could obtain one is also questionable.

I wouldn't see why not, however.

Ooh, I could see how that could waste a lot of time.

...It could be a pretty nice experiment to try. Maybe technologies aren't limited to just one dimension.

It would, especially if you've quite a few capchalogue cards.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the outcome of such an experiment. If you would like to try, I'd be willing to assist you in obtaining one.

You would? [A smile.] That would be great, Especially considering I'm the last person here to know about such things...

I would be delighted to. It would likely be better if I were there in person with you, as I've yet to go through all the different available Fetch Modi myself so wouldn't know what they've stocked. Can you wait fifteen minutes?

Oh, sure. I can wait. I've got nothing to do at the moment, so...

Take your time.
