A glimmer of hope for Tasmanian Devils:

Cedric the devil on the way to recovery

It looks as though Cedric the tasmanian devil is nearly back to normal after an operation to remove two tumours from his face.

an amazing animal.... I must look them up properly in wikipedia. This one looks kind of smiley, rather than devilish, but I can see where they got their name

They got their noise because of the horrible noises they make when they fight and play. Devils fight a lot, but most of it's kind of playful ... at least, by the Devil's reckoning. When you've got a bite that can crush concrete, you're idea of "playful" is sometimes a little different to others'.

Also, the usual photo of them, with their jaws agape, looks pretty fierce, but what it actually is, is they're yawning, which they actually do when they're nervous.
