Hey! I stayed home from Parade of Lost Souls to watch Dexter (s1 is showing "uncut haha" on Bravo, so I decided to give it a try, and I am so glad I did*) and Guy Ripley on the set of "I Don't Care." I also stayed home to ensure good weather for everyone attending. Worth it ( Read more... )

Dexter is my *favorite* actually kind-of thinky show, and I have opinions about what needs to happen and what's going to happen and what has happened and...storytelling. And no one with whom to talk about them. So you should get caught up, is what I'm saying, so I can make you talk to me about Dexter a whole lot!!! Please!!!

I'm watching as fast as they're giving me the episodes! I will maybe/probably get the s1 DVDs in a couple of weeks? And s2 a couple of weeks after that? I don't get the channel it actually airs on, so I have no source for the new season, sadface.

It's so strange, like. Michael C. Hall, hello! You are compelling with your creepiness, though I miss how squishy you were on 6FU! And the little sister is awesome! And the lieutenant chick also! And his traumatized girlfriend was a crazy vampire on Buffy! I love it all very much :D

Um, well, in theory, I could probably supply you with the new season. In that the episodes are available (after they air, obviously) on demand through my cable company. And I have a DVD recorder that I got for Christmas two years ago which I do not know how to use. So it seems like I should be able to record them onto a DVD and then somehow transfer them from the DVD to my computer and, from there, to the internet. Right? I'll work on figuring it out.

And I want to say things about everyone, but I can't because I am sure to say the wrong thing and spoil stuff. But it's one of those shows where there aren't any characters who I like unreservedly, but there isn't a single character who I flat out hate, and I always think that's interesting. And they do some cool stuff with the hero, antihero, and villain tropes. And other stuff.

Dexter is fantastic. Three seasons in and there has not been a single episode that has made me want to kill the whole writing team. Not even Buffy pulled that off, and I have a lot of love for Buffy.

(I've got pretty much every episode in .avi on my computer. I could upload them or burn them and send them to you. Uploading would probably take longer because I'd have to split the files.)

I get more fascinated with every episode, and I'm actually interested in the plot arcs of the tertiary characters, which I didn't expect to be.

(Um. Burning would be better? Thank you, ever so much. Do you still have my address? Is there anything I can attempt to do for you?)

Actually I never got your address. I think LJ was hating me at the time since I was missing a bunch of comment notifications as well.
amy.deshaies@gmail.com should be more reliable.

I don't defriend people. I get defriended. En masse.

S1 of Dexter vvv good. S2 completely lost our interest. Woe.

That's not very cool. I would not defriend you, regardless of what the mass are doing.

I shall approach s2 with caution, whenever it comes within reach. Because complete loss of interest would indeed be woeful.

I am so glad you found Dexter! And sorry I can't rec you the fic you want- I don't do Dexter porn, simply because his asexuality (and the slow revelation that his asexuality evolves - or was a lie to himself in the first place) is so much a part of his character arc that I just CAN'T shoehorn in random sex. But there are some wonderful fics about Debra, who is one of my favorite female TV characters of all time, over at Yuletide- here for character study and here for a creepy AU, both spoilers through the end of S1.

I'm so happy you're liking it! It's a stunningly thinkier-than-I-expected show.

You know, yeah, you're right. I thought about it after I read your comment, and you're totally right (and then I went and watched the one where Rita goes down on him, and then I had to think about it again, lol). I think what I want is more of the characters interacting, because there was some really fantastic chemistry there.

I will save your recs until I've seen the rest of the seasons--this is so totally a show I don't want spoiled!

Police procedurals were invented so that there could be the first several seasons of CSI and Law & Order, the entirety of Homicide, and this show (and some British shows too).

Oh, GOD. Don't spoil yourself, no.

(Procedurals pretty much bore the crap out of me. This one is different. Though I'll consider that another rec for Homicide... that's starting to look tempting)

I'm a fan of well-done, functional procedurals, ha.

Homicide was much, much more character-focused than the vast majority of cop shows. it got kind of crappy in the middle, but the first season is solid gold. You should try it for Andre Braugher as Pembleton, if nothing else (just one episode, really). He's awesome.

I could never cut Peanut. Picklehead would be so upset.

(And Dad and Daddy would cut me.)
