First and foremost, I have to thank
tellshannon815 for inviting me to a lead discussion here again -- this time about yet another of my very favorite pairings, involving two of my very favorite characters: the almighty Jacob and his awesome brother, Smokey/Man In Black/Nameless Boy/
Dr. Smoke/Esau. I’m going to mostly stick with Esau from here on out, though.
But

2.) I am definitely convinced that the Smoke Monster is not exactly Jacob's brother, though I'm still undecided whether or not there's something... meaningful of his brother in the Monster, or if the Monster merely adopts its victim's memories for its own purposes.
3.) I definitely see your point here; can I ask whether exploring human emotions and elements against the backdrop of their immortality and their "greater powers," so to speak, is still interesting to you, or is it more the focus on that un-human element exclusively that intrigues you?
4.) Agreed. I require Titus and Mark, for the most part, in order for me to really buy into the pairing.
7.) "I think once you're god of a mystical island and a smoke monster, most taboos no longer apply." -- most definitely ( ... )

2.) I think I latched on to the possibility that it's not exactly his brother 1) because of the actual the dead body, and 2) because of the potential for glorious, beautiful angst. Which I love. But I swing both ways on this one, too :D
4.) I love the idea of playing with these two through time. And I have a hard time sexualizing Locke as a character, even when he's a Smoke Monster. I am currently writing a Heroes/Doctor Who/Lost crossover, where, you know... other people come to the Island and were both screwed with, did some screwing with, and got just plain screwed ;D
5.) WORD.
6.) I completely and wholeheartedly agree. There was definitely love between them, and I do believe that's what really gives the pairing a unique and gorgeous depth. Similarly, while I'm down with a bit of violence here and there, non-con and dub-con are really not my thing in general, and these two are no exception ( ... )

1.) They really are fascinating, aren't they? Separate, together, whatever. AWESOME. (You did kind of make my mind go into Cerberus-Security-System/Creepy-Ghost-In-The-Cabin territory for like ten seconds, though ( ... )

2.) I, too, am still undecided; I can't figure if the Smoke Monster is like Esau because there's a part of him that is Esau, or whether the Monster merely takes bits of his victims in order to better impersonate them and thus further his own agenda. Hmm...
5.) Stubborn? I vote awesome instead. Merging show canon and head canon is the best :D And I agree that, for me, it's probably somewhere between the two that I buy into most.
6.) Sexually, it's touch and go with them for me, in terms of the writing. If I go there, I don't generally write it explicitly, and I have a tendency to bring in other characters as well. Their dynamic, though, is what really gets me, so the sexuality part isn't exactly a deal maker or breaker, on my end.
9.) Egyptian mythology is SO fascinating, and I love seeing it really brought into the development of these two in particular ( ... )
