A mathematical certainty

I have been reading the news, much like anyone else. The Virginia Tech shooting has been mislabeled as tragedy. It wasn't a tragedy, it was a mathematical certainty. It was the inevitable result of a poisoned culture that promotes risk and effort-avoidance over all else ( Read more... )

"An unavoidable and entirely predictable result of flawed social policy", perhaps yes, but that doesn't make it any less tragic. But I'd say it's pretty fucking tragic how screwed up that kid was in the head, whatever the root cause. What's even more tragic is how blind so many people are -to- the root causes of stuff like this - and not even looking for them. Instead we get knee-jerk stuff of "take away guns" or "it's because he's asian, stop immigration". Not "he's been ignored by everyone and force-fed sex and violence as the ultimate reward and solution to everything" and so forth.
